The text fro this post is: Garden cities of to-morrow, by Ebenezer Howard Sir (1898) [electronic resource] (Chapter XIII: The Future of London, pp. 151-159).
This text is about London and how it had a need to be redeveloped to make it a more sustainable place to live in terms of how people spent their money. It was about how London was overcrowded and one solution would be to create 'garden cities' (which would provide affordable housing in and around London for everyone).
The text talks about how this would make London a nicer place as it would eradicate the slums which would then be knocked down to create parks and recreational spaces for people to use.
This text can be used as an influence in my Interdisciplinary Design Studies as we have to make a master plan for an area of Nottingham. I can look at how they talk about the use of open space and creating nice areas for people to live which are not too crowded.
We also have to redesign an area of our site for our next Design Studio project; this text can help me to think about how the idea of garden cities can affect housing and the way people use the city.
