This post is about the Pruitt Igoe Now competition in 2011/12 taken from: http://www.pruittigoenow.org/
This website is about a competition to redesign the famously ineffective Pruitt Igoe site in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. The site is a famous example of 'bad' architecture and was knocked down in the 1970s. This competition ran in 2011/12 to redesign the currently unused site. A 'jury' chose 31 finalists and the winners were:
St Louis Ecological Production Line
Recipe Landscape
The Fantastic Pruitt Igoe!
The St Louis Ecological Production Line, by Heather Dunbar and Xiaowei R. Wang, stood out to me as its approach as an 'ecological assembly line' would be beneficial to both the economy and the environment. In cities there is a lack of green space generally, and this would create a large green space which would also have another use, not just a space in the city. I think that this is important to the city because we need more places like this for the economy to grow and as a designer I think that it is a good way of incorporating the environment into the city.
