This house in Dallas, USA uses slate tiles as the façade material. I would like this to be a part of my façade and this shows that slate tiles can be used on vertical walls as well as inclined roofs. Although there is no elevation to show how they were drawn, there are some shown on one of the sections which I have included.
This project by Alventosa Morell Arquitectes is very similar to my project, in scale and location, although I am unsure who the client was exactly. The 15m wide plot is between 2 buildings and is a home. The architects wanted to create a naturally light space space within this land locked site. The paneling/brise soleil on the front of the building create a sound barrier between the street and the building but also let in some natural light at the same time. I think that this building would be too open internally for my client who would want more separation between the spaces. Bibliography
Dezeen (2015) Alventosa Morell slots a 4 storey house between 2 blocks in Barcelona. Available at http://www.dezeen.com/2014/12/13/alventosa-morell-cp-house-barcelona-squeezed-between-blocks/ Last accessed 5th Feb 2015 This house was refurbished by Vietnamese architects, Tropical Space, and although it is only for 3 people, it shows good use of natural lighting and ventilation. The brickwork on the front elevation also provides privacy whilst allowing light into the building.
This house extension has been designed to mimic the original terrace, however, it uses larger windows and wooden paneling to create a more contemporary feeling. Although it is not specifically designed for an extended family, it is of a similar scale to my project and I like the 1960s style, with a modern twist, using timber and larger glass elements. It shows that even though the style is old and slightly dated, it can still look contemporary and the internal features and layout will not necessarily be dictated by the external elements.
